The National Weather Service will be offering a FREE Skywarn training
class on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 6 to 9PM at the East Harris County
Activity Center, 7330 Spencer Highway in Pasadena. This is a training
class that enables the National Weather Service to issue more timely and
accurate warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods,
by receiving information back from the trained spotters. Any citizen
interested in public service is eligible, but excellent candidates
include police officers, firefighters, medics, HAM radio operators, and
Dispatch personnel.

More information on the Skywarn program is located at:
http://www.weather.gov/skywarn/.

This training is being hosted jointly by the Cities of Southeast Harris
County and is open to anyone interested. Specifically, the Cities of
Pasadena and La Porte are using this as a part of their Storm Ready
certification requirements, but all cities in the area are welcome to
attend and participate.

We understand that the public safety sector will make up most of the
audience, but please feel free to spread the word regarding this
training and use this opportunity to get other citizens involved.

I would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of this FREE and
worthwhile training.
