I need a station that will volunteer to be a relay station during the wide area net.  A relay station is one that listens for weak stations that are not heard by the net control operator.  The relay station calls net control to tell the net control operator of the call sign of the station trying to call in.  The relay station is probably a station that has an outside antenna and more power available than an HT can deliver.  If you can be a relay station for the upcoming wide area net then please let me know.

Thanks.

Subject: [ARES-SE] Area Wide Net

There will be an area wide (all district 14 and district 1) net on Sunday, August 31, at 7:00 pm.  The repeater will be 145.17 (-)(PL 123.0).  The backup repeater will be 145.19 (-)(PL123.0).

I would like very much to have a strong showing from the southeast Harris county unit.  All of Harris county ARES groups will be participating.  Also invited to participate will be ARES hams from district 1.

This is an opportunity to get experience operating in a large net.  This net will also give the ARES leadership a better understanding of how well this repeater can serve Harris county in the event of an emergency.  Since this is a wide area net there may be stations that can not quite make the repeater.  We will have relay stations that will attempt to relay those stations that do not make the repeater.  So please be patient during the net as there will be a lot of stations calling.

The plan for the net is to have each quadrant (unit) of the county call in at separate time.  Northwest will go first followed by Northeast, Southeast and finally Southwest.  During the call for each unit, stations will be asked to checkin based on the last letter in their call sign.  The order will be as follows:

Stations with call sign suffix beginning with Alpha through India
Stations with call sign suffix beginning with Juliet through Romeo
Stations with call sign suffix beginning with Sierra through Zulu

Please mark this time\date on your calendar and lets have a great participation from the southeast unit.

Thanks.

Let me know if you have any questions.
