Don't forget we have a net tonight.
Also ARES is being asked to provide 8 teams of 3-4 operators (more is
OK) for both Sat & Sun for the MS-150 to be communicators at the Break
Points (SAG Stops). You do not have to work both days in order to
help. While I have not been told differently we will have dinner
provided for us in La Grange as previous years plus being able to bunk
down in the dorms at the youth camp in La Grange.
Our role will be to talk to the SAG vans on MURS assisting them, and
pass any traffic to / from the SAG stop commander to the net. We will
not be doing traffic cop duties like we did last year. We will be
working closely with the CERT teams who will be doing traffic duty
with the SAG vans.
The MS Society will provide a van for each team. Depending upon the
number of people we may share a van with the CERT team assigned to our
SAG stops. ARES is the lead volunteer group for SAG. All I need to
know if you want to use your vehicle or take a van,. We can also car
pool among ourselves as well I am going to drive my vehicle and after
we eat Saturday night run by the camp, take a shower and pitch my tent
somewhere on the youth camp. The main jump off rendezvous site is the
Park & Ride lot Katy Fwy @ Eldridge. There will be armed security for
any vehicles that get left there.
I will take responsibility for one stop so I need one other person to
take responsibility for one stop and provide a portable station for
it. I haven't checked but I would imagine if you want to drive you can
operate from your vehicle as long as it meets the requirements. Your
station needs to be a two meter (dual band preferable) radio capable
of 25 watts and a 3 dB gain antenna or equiv. You will be given a
MURS radio for communicating with the SAG vans.
Since we will be at the SAG stops we will have access to porta-cans,
drinks and snacks. Anything else you may want is a good excuse to
exercise your "go-kits". I am taking a cooler with bottled water and
a few drinks so if you want to drop some items in that's fine.
