Greetings,

The southeast ARES unit email list seems to be lacking many of you that are
registered as ARES members for the southeast unit. Therefore I have tried
creating a supplement list of email address in an effort to reach everyone.
If you receive this note twice then let me know and I will try to fix it.

Some of you may not be aware that I have accepted the position of Emergency
Coordinator for Southeast Harris County. I will be working in the future to
learn what I need to know about being an EC. I want to visit the local
amateur radio clubs to try to recruit new members. I also want to explore
developing a telephone tree in the event that we have a call out.

Our basic repeater will be 146.64 (-)(no tone). In the event of a call out
you will want to also monitor 147.000.

Please join us each Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM on the 146.64 repeater for
the southeast weekly ARES net.

The Clear Lake Amateur Radio Club is very active with public service events
in the Clear Lake area. These are excellent opportunities for you to use
your radio equipment in an environment that may be similar to what could
happen in an actual emergency. Therefore I want to encourage you to visit
their web site at www.clarc.org <http://www.clarc.org/> and register on the
web site so that you can sign up to participate in these public service
events. You do not have to be a member of the CLARC ARC in order to
participate. These public service events operate a net with a net control
with tactical call signs (and your FCC call sign too). This is also a great
opportunity to practice being on location, operating on battery power much
like it could be during a real emergency. You can get a good idea how you
and your radio operate and hone your skills of operating on location. Many
of the events will give you a T-shirt for participating but the primary
reason for participating is to develop your skills that you can use in the
event of an emergency. I attend most of these and I would like to see a lot
of the SE ARES members also participate. So please consider visiting the
web site, register on the site and signup for public service events.

If you have any questions or want to talk about ARES please don't hesitate
to contact me. Well with that said I should say that I am going away for a
short vacation but should be back by July 23. I like email but you can call
me on the phone too.
